Imagine this: You’re barefoot on a stand up paddleboard. The board is moving gently with the swells as the sun sets over your shoulder – one of those amazing North Devon sunsets over Lundy Island… All you can hear is the water lapping against your SUP. Your focus is on the voice of one of
North Devon School’s yoga instructors coaching you on a moving mat.
Stand up paddleboarding is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. Combine this with the popularity of yoga and you have yourself one fast-growing fitness trend. Board manufacturers like Red Paddle Co and Starboard make SUP Yoga specific boards, some of these are inflatable so are easily stored and transported and also extremely durable. These boards are wider for stability and have a special deck surface that make them gripy for your practice.
Across the globe, people are taking to the water for fitness and relaxation. Drawn by the unique setting, the freedom of letting go, falling in, and the incredible physical benefits. All those muscles you’re thought you were using in your yoga practice… you aren’t really using them until you are doing the postures on a moving board. What’s the worst that could happen…..apart from falling in the water it’s all part of the Fun…..
Our instructors are trained to teach through the Devon School of Yoga. The school’s core practice derives from the teaching of Dr. B. Padmanabha Pillai, of Kerala, South India (author of Yoga ‐ A Way of Life). As a member of the Independent Yoga Network, and therefore listed on the Yoga Register.
